Kaziranga National Park is famous for many reasons. UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage Site. It is a home to the One horned Rhinoceroses and is the oldest National Park of Assam. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. The Park houses the highest number of tigers among the protected areas in the world. Other animals spotted here are elephants, water buffalo, swamp deer, Indian Gray Mongoose, Leopard, Large Indian Civet, Bengal Fox, Sloth Bear, Golden Jackal, Chinese Ferret Badgers and many more. The topography of the Park consists of dense forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes and pools. The Park houses around 546 species of flora.
Mount the elephants to move around the Park and enjoy the wilderness of the Park to the hilt. Another exciting activity here is the boat cruise on the river Brahmaputra along the Park.

The Park is also a bird's paradise. It has been recognized as an important Bird Area by Birdlife International. The Park contributed a lot to the conservation of avian species. It has several bird species such as Lesser White-fronted Goose, Ferruginous Duck, Baer's Pochard duck, Lesser Adjutant, Greater Adjutant, Black-necked Stork, Asian Openbill, White-tailed, Palla's Fish Eagle and the list seems to be endless.

Accommodation:
The Park has three tourist lodges which are under the supervision of the Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Assam. Several private resorts with great facilities are also available outside the Park.

Transport:
You will be guided by the forest department authorized guides on your wildlife safari in Kaziranga National Park. You can opt for elephant safari, jeep safari or 4x4 vehicles which are booked in advance.

Climate:
Hot and humid in summer and very cold in winter. Most propitious time between November-April.

How To Reach:
Air: The nearest airport is at Jorhat town, at 96 km from the Park. Regular flights connect Jorhat with Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati.
Rail: The nearest railway station is Furkating, at 80 km from the Park. It connects Assam with Delhi and Kolkata.

Fees:
Cost of Jeep ride is Rs. 180. Elephant ride will cost Rs. 180 per person. You will have to pay Rs. 50 as still camera fee.
