Jorethang

Jorethang is the flourishing business centre in the South Sikkim district in Sikkim. It is ideally located on the Rangeet River, a tributary of the River Teesta. It shares its border with West Bengal. Jorethang is famous for its annual event called 'Maghe Mela'. It is a traditional event attracting a lot of visitors from Sikkim and other parts of the country. It is held on 14th January and stretches for three days. It is the best opportunity for a visitor to peep into the traditional culture of South Sikkim. The festival commences after harvesting is done and crops of winter are planted. People make merry and enjoy this festival to its fullest.

Jorethang has its own share of attractions for the tourists. It is an ideal place for river rafting and trekking. Many tourists come here only for enjoying these adventurous sports. Remote mountain villages are the perfect places for trekking. While trekking you will get a chance to see the nature at its best. Hot Springs are other attractions located nearby. The climate here remains pleasant throughout the year so you can visit the place at any time without giving it a second thought.
