Wokha TravelFounded in the year 1973, the Wokha district is a wonderful district in Nagaland. It shelters Lothas, one of the most important tribes of the state. This tribe is known for its beautiful dances and melodious folk songs. All their celebrations are marked by dance and music performances. Tokhu Emong and Pikhuchak are the most important festivals of this tribe. The tribal people are excellent weavers. They weave colourful and beautiful shawls which are worn by them to indicate their social status. The prestigious social shawl for women is Opvuram and Longpensu for men. Wokha district covers an area of 1,682 sq km and has an altitude of 1,313.69 m. This beautiful district is dotted with several ridges and hills which offer great views of the surroundings. It shares its border with Kohima in the south(the capital city of Nagaland), Mokokchung in the north, Assam in the west and Zunheboto in the east. The district is divided into three ranges – the Upper Range or the Wokha Range, the Lower Range or the Bhandari Range and the Middle Range or the Sanis Range. Tiyi Enung is the highest peak in Wokha. This district produces oranges, bananas, plums, bamboo shoots and vegetables in plenty. |
