About Nagaland

Nagaland is a mesmerizing hill station inhabited by the tribes reflecting the rich culture of India. It shares its borders with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Myanmar and Manipur. Dimapur is the capital city of Nagaland.The term Nagaland has been derived from the word Nag meaning snake. Its rich heritage clearly reflects in its culture, language, dances, festivals and cuisine. Plan a holiday to Nagaland and you will be rewarded with cool fresh air, huge mountains and lush green stretches of land. The early history of the state is associated with the Naga tribes. Nagamese, Hindi and English are the languages spoken here.

Climate:

In winter the temperature falls down to 5°C. Biting cold if observed in January. May to September is the period of rainfall. So best time to visit Nagaland is between October to March.


Shopping:

Nagaland's handloom and handicrafts are known for their beauty and durability. Weaving is the traditional art of the state. You can buy a lot of items from the markets here. Shawls, mekhelas(sarongs), hand bags which are impressively decorated. Beads and cane and bamboo baskets are a must-buy items in Nagaland.


Cuisine:

When it comes to cuisine Naga people are more inclined towards meat. They use simple and flavourful ingredients. Defore preparing the mouth watering dished they ferment or dry fish and meat.


How To Reach Nagaland:

Air: The nearest airport is Dimapur, 74 km.
Rail: The railway station at Dimapur is the nearest one which links Nagaland to Guwahati. Guwahati is connected to all the major cities of India.
Road: A good network of road connects Nagaland with Imphal, Guwahati, Shillong and Kolkata.


Accommodation:

Nagaland is a small state with limited number of hotels. Most of the hotels are located in Kohima. Stay at any of the good hotels at the capital city from where you can easily travel to other parts of the state. Most of the hotels fall into budget category. However, budget hotels provide modern facilities and services to its guests. So there is no need to worry about your comfortable stay.
