Barapani / Umimam Lake

Barapani Lake is a promising site for adventure seekers. It offers great water sports and adventure facilities to the visitors. What would you like to indulge in; kayaking, water cycling/scooting or boating? All these facilities are available at this lake. It is also known as Umiam lake. Here a huge hydro-electric dam has been constructed across the river stream. Its beauty and facilities make it a famous tourists destination of Meghalaya. It is located only at a distance of 15 km from Shillong and is easily accessible. The efforts of the State authorities and the Meghalaya Tourism Department have resulted in the development of this lake into a place of tourist interest. There is an Orchid Tourist home overlooking the lake which is run by the government. The Barapani lake boasts of floating restaurants offering delicious meals.
