Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary
Location: 35 km from Agartala, Tripura Main Attraction: Endangered flora and fauna Climate: Hot and Humid in summers and pleasant in winters Best Time To Visit: Throughout the year, but migratory birds can be spotted only in winters.
Covering an area of 18.53 sq km, the Sanctuary was constituted on 2nd February 1987. A variety of wildlife is seen here. The endangered species seen here is Dukul ( the green Imperial pegion-state bird) and groups of Phary's leaf monkey-State animal. The moist deciduous forest of the Sanctuary shelters five different species of primates such as Rhesus macaque, Pigtailed macaque, Capped langur, Spectacled langur and slow lories. They can be easily spotted here. It boasts of the crab eating Mongoose which was last sighted about 72 years ago in India has been sighted in this Sanctuary. It is a known wildlife sanctuary of North East India.
