The primary language is Assamese. Bengali and English are also spoken.


The most celebrated festival of Assam is Bihu. It is a harvesting festival celebrated in January. It is marked with community feast and cultural events such as dance and music.It is celebrated with great joy.


The craftsman of Assam have long perfected the art of making wonderful handicrafts. The famous shopping items available in the markets of Assam are metal crafts, handlooms, silk fabric, bamboo toys, cloth and mud toys, cane products, pottery, woodcraft, masks and jewellery. Shopping is a real fun in Assam.


Most of the culinary delights of Assam are prepared from rice. Some of the rice dishes are joha, indica and japonica. The non vegetarian delights are different varieties of fishes. Tenga is an important traditional dish of Assam. Assamese prefer non-spicy food.

The best time to visit Assam is From October to April. The climate is very pleasant during this period.
