Digboi - The Proud of Assam

Famous for its oil field, Digboi is known as the 'Oil City' of Assam. It is a home to the first oil well in Asia. Digboi is a town located in the Tinsukia district of Assam. The discovery of the oil field in this town dated back to the 19th century. An Oil refinery was established here which is still in use. Several British professionals worked for Assam Oil Company before India got its independence. The Britisher's influence in the town led to its infrastructure development. The town is dotted with some beautiful bungalows which are worth a visit. It boasts of finest golf courses in India with 18 holes. Several tournaments are held here. The British influence can still be sensed in the culture of Digboi. Digboites have inclination towards golf, tennis, swimming and clubbing.

Located around 60 km from Digboi is the Saikhowa National Park which has a rich variety of wildlife. Migratory birds can also be sighted here. Margherita is a wonderful place located 14 km east of Digboi. It is a land of tea Gardens, Plywood factories and coal mines.
